How to Make Your Laptop Load Faster?

Image
Photo by  Daria Shevtsova  from  Pexels You can make your laptop run faster by replacing the hard-disk drive (HDD) with a solid-state drive (SSD). Just bring your laptop to a computer shop near you and have it done by their in-house technician.  That will melt away your frustration from waiting too long, and you can get your task done right away.  I have a laptop that loads slowly, but I had solved that when I asked a technician to install an SSD inside my laptop to replace the hard-disk drive. Before the installation, my laptop took so long to load. I wait like, forever, before I can use it. It is irritating and upsets my writing mood. I often say, "Ang bagal naman!"  Sometimes, I've already done other chores and my laptop is still loading. I can only say in frustration, "Anong petsa na?  There were moments that I wanted to throw my laptop and replace it with a new one. But buying a new one would be expensive and, besides, my current laptop has some years left in it

The 72 Hours Formula for Typhoon Preparedness

Image
We all need to prepare for a coming typhoon before it hits us directly. Preparation is the key so that we will not be caught off-guard and we will not be helpless. We can easily make preparations inside our homes.   It usually takes 72 hours for rescue and relief efforts to reach disaster victims and for utilities to resume normal operation.  A lifeline kit is what we need to tide us over for 72 hours. The  Philippine Red Cross (PRC) , in one of their Facebook posts, suggests that we should have a lifeline kit on hand to allow us to survive for 72 hours.  I read online that typhoons and floods are recurring events. The Philippines, alone, experiences an average of twenty typhoons yearly. In that case, we have no choice but to prepare for them when they hit us directly.  Usually, a typhoon brings heavy rains and floods that could turn into a disaster.  That situation might isolate us in our homes or force us to evacuate. Utilities such as power, water, cellphone, and fuel may not be ava

3 Ways to Charge Your Cellphone During A Power Outage

Image
The night when typhoon Ulysses passed through Metro Manila and nearby provinces, we experienced a power outage that will last for more than 3 days. We failed to charge our cellphones and by the following morning, every cellphone inside the house went dark and left us with no communication at all. If only we had a way to charge our phones.  After the storm had left and the floodwaters had receded, I searched for options online and found 3 ways to charge your cellphone during an extended power outage. Again, I learned two things from the situation. I didn't prepare for the approaching typhoon and I didn't know how to charge a cellphone during a power outage. Of course, you can charge your cellphones using the power from your car.  But let's assume that your car was submerged by the flood. Let's also assume that you have used up the charge of your power bank. Take a look at the three options I saw online: 1. You can assemble a makeshift emergency cellphone charger that use

The Covid-19 Future in the Philippines

Image
Our future amid the covid-19 landscape will be the blended normal. That future is already happening here in the Philippines. It has been running for ten months and our lives have changed since the pandemic started.  Recently, a pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer, announced that their vaccine is already 90% effective.  But they estimate to roll it out by the middle of next year. If that happens, will we go back to our normal ways? I doubt it because the pandemic has already changed the way we see and do things. In mid-February of 2020, the Philippines closed its border for months.  The national government and local government units curtailed the movement of people and imposed strict quarantine of cities and towns to stop the spread of the virus.  Local government units also regulated the trips of their constituents to groceries, malls, and other stores by issuing a strict schedule for everyone to follow. They also enforced health standards, like social distancing and wearing face masks in pub

A Millennial's Journey to Financial Freedom

Image
I co-wrote an eBook entitled, "A Millennial's Journey to Financial Freedom," with a personal finance expert. The eBook is a fictional story of a typical Millennial who is having a hard time managing his finances. The story also contains important lessons in personal finance that can teach Millennials how to achieve financial freedom. The story is set in the Philippines. The main character in the story is Mike Santos. He gets into money trouble because of his spending habits. It came to a point where he racked up a huge credit card debt and he found it hard to get out of it. Also in the story, Mike's girlfriend Sally almost broke up with him because of his money problems.  It's a good thing that he met a kind-hearted person Mr. Roberto, who helped him solve his money problem by teaching him personal finance lessons about cash management, debt management, risk management, and wealth management. With Mr. Roberto's help, Mike pulled himself out of the debt trap to
